"Blind as a bat" example

[edit]

I'm not sure this qualifies due to being inaccurate on two counts: 1.) Bats are not blind, at least generally and 2.) Some people are, so the statement "She's as blind as a bat" cannot be a hyperbole in any case, because if even whoever-she-is is literally blind, it is incorrect to compare that to bats since she would actually be more blind than most bats (I'm sure some bats are blind just as some humans are, but they would be the exception.), and if she isn't literally blind then it's still wrong because you're comparing her to something which is also not blind. It would only qualify as hyperbole to compare someone who is not blind with something which absolutely is, but I know of no such phrase in common usage. ("Blind as an earthworm" maybe?) 142.196.47.66 (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've had a REALLY rubbish day and am picking for a fight pal. But you are right and your pedantry (and correctness) made me chuckle. Thanks! Sirhissofloxley (talk) 00:43, 4 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

should this article be merged with Exaggeration?

[edit]

this article is currently a sub (in English at least) despite being made in 2005 & being a common word so it should be a section in the Exaggeration article right? DYC TY (talk) 03:03, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand. What are you trying to say?—Anita5192 (talk) 03:23, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That this article should be a redirect to Exaggeration and then adding a hyperbole section in the article DYC TY (talk) 02:07, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
